QA (quaternary amine) is a strong type of anion exchanger, which selectively binds molecules that are predominantly negatively charged over the pH working range of 2-13. It is suitable for a wide range of different applications, particularly for purification and concentration of viruses, VLPs and large proteins in capture, intermediate, or polishing steps of the downstream processing. Because of its high capacity for DNA and endotoxins it can be used as a tool of choice for polishing steps where these molecules need to be removed. Compared to the DEAE chemistry, the selectivity for a certain molecule is different.
