VILLACH, Austria, WILMINGTON, Del., and LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (February 9, 2011) – BIA Separations, a world leader in innovative liquid separation biochromatography technology, today announced the near-completion of their new worldwide manufacturing and training headquarters, which is being built to accommodate rising demand for the Company’s innovative, fast-monolithic chromatographic separations products.
The new BIA Separations facility, built in Ajdovscina Slovenia, is 4,000 square meters in total (43,000+ sq/ft), 1,500 square meters of which is dedicated to the production of BIA Separations’ fast monolithic chromatography columns. For R&D, chromatographic technology, and application labs, BIA Separations has allocated an additional 1,000 square meters, including Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) labs and a training location that seats 100 people. The reduced carbon footprint facility also features extended-stay guest residences, a 50kW solar power plant, and geothermal heating and cooling.
Using this new world-class facility, BIA Separations will be able to meet current and long-term increased global demand of customers engaged in biomolecule purification for use in vaccines, gene therapy, and other human therapeutics. With the increased laboratory space BIA Separations will further leverage the power of its short monolithic column technology with its deep experience in the purification of large biomolecules, methods development and validation of analytical methods to a larger world audience.
